Typical Fund-raising Event

In 2012 we were delighted to once again hold our Charity Golf Day at the prestigious Thorpe Hall Golf Club. We were most grateful to the Board and members for generously allowing us to use their wonderful facilities. The following is a description of the event in a previous year.

Since inception, this annual event has raised over £105,000 for local good causes. This year the major beneficiary will be the ‘Southend Toy Library’ (Registered Charity Number 265358).  Based at the Lighthouse Child Development Centre, attached to Kingsdown Special School, it is where most children with any kind of learning disability/special needs are referred locally. The Library provides a non-clinical space where families can relax and talk before/after appointments and meet others with similar issues and seek advice and information. Children can play with the toys in a special therapeutic area while parents and carers relax. Specialist toys and equipment, such as standing frames and walking aids, can also be borrowed. Fully supported activity days are run for children to give their families a chance to do something (or nothing) without having to worry about their child’s welfare. Trips for the children are also arranged when funds permit.  The service receives no regular income from the NHS or Local Authority and relies on voluntary donations to provide a much needed service.

The format of the day will follow that which has worked well in previous years.  Teams of four will compete on full handicaps with Stableford scoring. There will be numerous prizes including the chance to win a fantastic prize (usually a car but to be confirmed) for a Hole in One on the 16th.

The ever popular Putting Competition will run all day outside the Club House. A three course rolling buffet is included in the entry fee and prizes will be announced in the early evening.  As always, there will be a raffle with excellent prizes and the opportunity to bid for items and services in a silent auction.

The cost will be £200 for a team of four but an early entry price of £180 will be available for those booking and paying before 12th June 2013.  In addition we are always grateful that so many members of Thorpe Hall Golf Club play on our Charity Day and are pleased to offer them a nominal £5 discount per head on their entry fee.

Sponsorship

There are numerous opportunities for sponsoring various aspects of the day and we would be delighted to provide information on request.  Sponsors’ details will be displayed on a rolling basis on a large screen in the Club House and literature can be distributed on the tables. We are also happy to put company logos on the Rotary Club of Thorpe Bay’s website (for a period of one year) with a hyperlink to company’s own websites if required. For those wishing to sponsor a hole on the course, plaques will be displayed prominently.  Donations of prizes (goods or services) to the raffle and silent auction will also be gratefully received.  Contact us for more details.
